2000-2014 Tahoe Rear Air Shocks – Pair for Escalade, Suburban 1500, Avalanche and Yukon

These 2000-2014 Tahoe rear air shocks come as a pair, one for the rear left and one for the rear right, and the supplier lists the same set for the Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Avalanche and Suburban 1500, and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL 1500 of the same era. Each unit is a rear shock with an air spring built around it. Easy Life Markets sells the two together because the rear of the truck should always be done as an axle set.

A rear air shock does more than damp bumps. The air sleeve around the shock body is inflated or deflated by the truck's levelling system to hold the rear at the right height, whether the cargo area is empty or a trailer is hitched up. When the sleeve cracks or the seals give up, air leaks out, the rear sinks and the compressor runs far more than it should. The supplier describes the symptoms simply: a faulty unit can let the vehicle roll under braking, squat when you accelerate or lean to one side. For the principle behind it, see the air suspension article.

What Is Included

  • 2 x rear air suspension shock struts (rear left and rear right)

Fitting instructions are not included, and the supplier does not list mounting bolts or air line fittings as part of the set.

Compatibility

The supplier lists this rear pair for:

  • Cadillac Escalade, 2002–2014
  • Cadillac Escalade ESV, 2003–2014
  • Cadillac Escalade EXT, 2002–2013
  • Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, 2002–2006
  • Chevrolet Avalanche, 2007–2013
  • Chevrolet Suburban 1500, 2000–2014
  • Chevrolet Tahoe, 2000–2014
  • GMC Yukon, 2000–2014
  • GMC Yukon XL 1500, 2000–2014

That list needs one important qualification. These trucks were built with several different rear suspension packages, and only some of them use an air shock at the rear. A truck that left the factory with ordinary rear shocks has no air line or compressor to feed these units. Before ordering, check three things:

  1. Look at your current rear shocks. An air shock has a rubber sleeve around the upper body and a small air line connected to it.
  2. Match a part number. The supplier's interchange numbers are listed below. Find the number on your old shock, or look it up by VIN in a GM parts catalogue.
  3. Ask if in doubt. Send us your VIN and we will help you compare it with the reference numbers.

Interchange Part Numbers

The supplier gives the following interchange numbers for this pair: 15756926, 15852159, 15869656, 15869658, 15918525, 15924688, 15945872, 19300040, 19300045, 19300046, 19300069, 19300070, 19300071, 19300072, 19302786, 22187152, 22187156, 22187158, 22400885, 25885467, 25885469, 25885470, 25979391, 25979393, 25979394, 88965338, 88965458, 40034, 4J-0005S, AS-2127, AS-2700, AS-2708, AS-2715.

Signs the Rear Air Shocks Are Finished

  • The rear of the truck sits low after being parked overnight
  • The air compressor runs for a long time or cuts in again and again
  • The rear squats when you pull away or when a trailer is attached
  • The truck leans to one side at the back
  • Cracks or perished rubber on the air sleeve, or oil on the shock body
  • A suspension service message on the dash

A leaking air line or a tired compressor produces some of the same symptoms. Spray soapy water on the sleeve and the air fitting with the system pressurised and watch for bubbles before you decide which part to replace.

Installation Tips

  • Support the truck on stands under the frame and support the rear axle separately, so the axle does not drop when the shocks are unbolted.
  • Let the air out of the system before disconnecting the air line, and disconnect the battery or pull the compressor fuse so the compressor cannot start while you work.
  • Cut the end of the air line square if it is worn, and push it fully home in the new fitting.
  • Tighten the upper and lower mounts to the figures in the service manual.
  • Lower the truck onto its wheels, start the engine and let the system level itself. Then check both fittings for leaks.

The supplier recommends professional installation, and no instructions come with the set. If you have not worked on an air levelling system before, a qualified mechanic is the safer choice.

Why the Rear Is Done as a Pair

Both rear units are the same age and have done the same work. When one sleeve starts to leak the other is rarely far behind, and a new shock beside an old one gives uneven damping across the axle. Changing both at once also means the levelling system only has to be opened once.

Who These Shocks Are For

This pair is for owners of the listed GM trucks and SUVs that have rear air levelling from the factory and want to keep it working, and for workshops that need an aftermarket replacement set. It is not a conversion kit for trucks without rear air suspension.

Common Questions

Do they fit the front? No. They are listed for the rear only.

Is the compressor included? No. The set is two shocks only.
