Bath Towels, Hand Towels and Towel Sets

Easy Life Markets sells bath towels, hand towels, square face towels and matching towel sets in cotton, plus hooded bathrobes for children. If you are replacing tired towels for the whole household, a three-piece or six-piece set is the simplest way to get every size in one colour. If you only need extra hand towels for guests or the kitchen, buy them singly or in a small pack.

This guide explains the different towel sizes, what towel weight and fibre type mean for softness and drying, how to choose colours and sets, and how to wash towels so they stay absorbent. Our current range includes plain, striped border, double sided, long staple, combed cotton and embroidered towel sets in many colours, and a kids' animal hood bathrobe. The current price and availability are shown on each product page.

Light blue bath towels in a 6 piece cotton set: two bath, two hand and two square towels stacked in a bathroom

What is in our towels and linens range

  • Bath towels: the large towel for drying the whole body after a shower or bath.
  • Hand towels: medium towels for the basin, the guest toilet or the kitchen.
  • Square towels: small face cloths or wash cloths, sometimes called flannels.
  • Towel sets: matching bath, hand and square towels sold together.
  • Bathrobes: wearable towels, including hooded robes for children.

Towel Sizes Explained

Towel sizes vary between makers, so always check the exact measurements on the product page. These are the typical ranges you will see.

Towel type Typical size Main use
Square or face towel Around 30 x 30 to 35 x 35 cm Washing the face, wiping hands, travel
Hand towel Around 30 x 70 to 40 x 80 cm Basin, guest toilet, kitchen, gym
Bath towel Around 70 x 140 cm Drying the body after a shower
Large bath towel Around 70 x 150 cm and up Wrapping round after a bath, taller people
Bath sheet Around 90 x 160 cm and up Full wrap, beach, spa use

Two of our sets list a 70 x 150 cm bath towel: the bath and hand towel set, sold as single towels or bundles, and the striped border towel set, which also comes in bundles with a matching rug. Our embroidered hand towel measures 34 x 75 cm and comes singly or as a pack of three.

How to choose the right size

Taller people and anyone who likes to wrap a towel round after a bath usually prefer larger bath towels. Children and people who travel often prefer smaller, lighter ones that dry faster. A hand towel is the right choice at the basin, where a full bath towel would trail on the floor and stay damp.

Cotton Types: Why Fibre Matters

Almost all of our towels are cotton, because cotton absorbs water well and gets softer with washing. But not all cotton is the same. The length of the fibre, called the staple, affects how soft and strong the yarn is. The Wikipedia article on towels has a useful overview of towel materials and weaves.

Long staple cotton

Longer fibres spin into a smoother, stronger yarn with fewer loose ends. Towels made from it tend to shed less lint and feel softer over time. Our long staple cotton towels are a 32-strand set with bath, hand and square towels in 12 colours.

Combed cotton

Combing removes short fibres and impurities before spinning. The result is a cleaner, softer yarn. The combed cotton towel set is a three-piece gift set with a 600 g bath towel, in five colours. Its weight makes it a substantial, absorbent towel.

Standard cotton

Plain 100% cotton towels are the everyday workhorse. They are absorbent and easy to wash. Our embroidered bath towel set is 100% cotton bath and hand towels with a gold crest, in four colours.

Towel Weight and Thickness

Towel weight is often given as GSM, grams per square metre. It tells you how dense the fabric is.

  • Lighter towels (lower GSM) dry fast, pack small and suit the gym, travel and humid climates.
  • Mid-weight towels are the everyday choice: absorbent but not slow to dry.
  • Heavy towels (higher GSM) feel plush and soak up a lot of water, but take longer to dry on a rail.

Some products give a total towel weight instead of GSM, such as the 600 g bath towel in our combed cotton set. A heavier towel of the same size has more cotton in it. Our double sided towel set is described as soft and thickened, with bath, hand and square towels in 10 colours.

Thick or thin: which is better?

Neither is better for everyone. If your bathroom has good airflow and a heated rail, thick bath towels are a pleasure. If your bathroom is small and steamy, mid-weight towels will dry between uses and stay fresh longer.

Weaves, Borders and Finishes

Most bath towels are woven as terry cloth. Terry has small loops of yarn on both sides, and those loops are what soak up water. Longer, denser loops feel softer and absorb more. Shorter loops feel crisper and dry faster. Look at the photos on each product page to see the loop texture up close.

Ribbed and striped borders

Many towels have a flat woven band near each end, called a dobby or border. It adds strength where the towel is gripped and stops the ends from fraying. It also gives a towel its look. Our striped border set and the long staple set both have distinct ribbed borders.

Embroidery

An embroidered crest or monogram makes a towel feel special and suits guest bathrooms and gifts. Wash embroidered towels inside a laundry bag or on a gentler cycle, and avoid rubbing the embroidery with a stiff brush.

Double sided towels

Some towels are woven so both faces feel the same, with no obvious right or wrong side. That makes them easy to grab and fold, and even in feel whichever way you use them.

Towel Sets vs Single Towels

A set gives you matching towels in every size, which looks tidy on a rail and makes buying simple. Single towels let you top up just the size you use most.

Three-piece sets

A typical three-piece set has one bath towel, one hand towel and one square towel. That is one person's full kit. Our minimalist towel set is a plain three-piece cotton set in 12 colours. The striped border, double sided and combed cotton sets also come as three-piece sets.

Six-piece sets

A six-piece set usually has two of each size, enough for two people or for one person with a spare set while the other is washing. Our 6 piece towel set includes two bath, two hand and two square towels in solid colours, with 21 styles to choose from.

How many towels does a household need?

A common rule is two bath towels per person: one in use and one in the wash. Add hand towels for each basin and the kitchen, and a few spare square towels. Guests need their own set.

Choosing Colours

Colour is personal, but a few practical points help.

  • White and cream look fresh and can be washed hot. They show stains and make-up more easily.
  • Grey, charcoal and taupe hide marks and suit modern bathrooms.
  • Blue, teal and green work well with white tiles and wooden accessories.
  • Pink and soft colours warm up a cold, plain room.
  • One colour per person stops arguments in a family bathroom. Sets with many colours, like our 12-colour and 21-style options, make this easy.

Bathrobes for Children

A hooded robe is easier than a towel for small children. It stays on while they walk, keeps their head warm, and they can put it on themselves as they get older. Our kids hooded bathrobe is absorbent cotton with an animal hood and a belt, in sizes S to L. Check the size chart on the product page against your child's height. Always supervise young children in and around the bath.

How to Wash Bath Towels So They Stay Soft

Most complaints about towels, such as stiffness, poor absorbency or a musty smell, come from washing habits. These steps keep bath towels at their best.

  1. Wash new towels before use. This removes finishing residues and starts to open up the cotton loops.
  2. Follow the care label. It gives the right temperature for the dye and fibre.
  3. Wash colours separately at first. Strong colours can release a little dye in the first few washes.
  4. Use less detergent than you think. Too much leaves a residue that makes towels stiff and less absorbent.
  5. Go easy on fabric softener. It coats the fibres and reduces absorbency. Many people skip it for towels.
  6. Do not overload the machine. Towels need room to rinse.
  7. Shake and dry fully. Shake each towel before drying to fluff the loops. Tumble dry if the label allows, or hang them in fresh air. Never fold or store towels damp.

Dealing with snags and lint

New cotton towels shed some lint in the first washes. That is normal and reduces over time. If a loop catches and pulls, snip it level with scissors rather than pulling it, which can unravel more of the row.

Towels Beyond the Bathroom

Towels do a lot of jobs around the house. Matching the towel to the job saves wear on your good bath towels.

  • Kitchen: hand towels are the right size for drying hands near the sink. Use a separate one from the bathroom for hygiene.
  • Gym and sport: a hand towel or a lighter bath towel packs into a bag and dries quickly.
  • Guest room: leave a folded three-piece set on the bed so guests know which towels are theirs.
  • Children: a hooded robe or a smaller bath towel is easier for them to manage.
  • Pets: keep an old towel aside for drying the dog. Pet hair is hard to wash out of good towels.

When to Replace Your Towels

Good cotton towels last for years with sensible washing, but they do wear out. Signs it is time for new ones:

  • They stay stiff even after washing with less detergent.
  • They no longer absorb well and push water around rather than soaking it up.
  • A musty smell comes back soon after washing.
  • The edges are fraying, or the fabric has thin patches and holes.

Old towels make good cleaning rags, so they do not need to go straight in the bin.

Towels as Gifts

Towels are a practical present for a housewarming, a wedding or a new parent. A boxed or neatly stacked set looks generous and gets used every day. Choose neutral colours if you do not know the bathroom, or pick a colour you know the person likes. The combed cotton gift set and the embroidered crest sets are the natural gift choices in our range. A hooded robe makes a thoughtful gift for a family with a toddler.

Storing and Hanging Towels

A towel that hangs open dries in hours. A towel folded on the floor stays damp and smells. Give each person a bar or hook. A towel bar, ring and robe hook are included in our stainless steel bathroom accessory set. For storing spares, a wall cabinet or over-the-toilet unit keeps clean towels dry and dust-free; see our bathroom cabinets and shelving.

Buying Tips

  • Decide on sizes first, then style and colour.
  • Buy two sets per person so one can be in the wash.
  • For guests, keep one special set, such as an embroidered or gift set, separate from daily towels.
  • For a coordinated bathroom, match towels to the bath mat and shower curtain. Our shower and bath collection has mats and curtain sets.
  • Check the exact sizes and what each bundle includes on the product page before ordering.

Who Our Towels Suit

Families will find the six-piece and multi-colour sets the most practical. Couples setting up a new home often start with two three-piece sets in different colours. Gift buyers like the combed cotton gift set and embroidered sets. Parents of young children will want the hooded robe. Holiday rental owners need easy-wash, mid-weight bath towels in neutral colours. If you are furnishing the whole room, the main bathroom collection covers every part of it, and our vanities and sinks and toilets and accessories ranges complete the space.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size are standard bath towels?

Most are around 70 x 140 cm. Larger ones, like those in our bath and hand towel set and striped border set, are 70 x 150 cm. Bath sheets are bigger again.

Why do my new towels feel less absorbent?

New towels can carry finishing residues. Wash them once or twice before use, and avoid fabric softener, which coats the fibres.

What does long staple cotton mean?

It means the cotton fibres are longer than average. Long fibres make a smoother, stronger yarn, so the towel tends to feel softer and shed less lint.

How often should I wash bath towels?

Many people wash them after three or four uses, as long as they dry fully between uses. Wash sooner if they smell damp.

Are thick towels better?

Thick towels absorb more and feel plush, but dry more slowly. In a small steamy bathroom, mid-weight towels often stay fresher.

Can I buy hand towels on their own?

Yes. Our embroidered hand towel is sold singly or as a pack of three, and some sets offer single towels as an option.

How do I return towels?

Please read our return and refund policy. For delivery information see the shipping policy page, and for other questions visit our FAQ page.
