2016-2023 Malibu Front Struts – Pair of Complete Strut & Coil Spring Assemblies for Chevrolet Malibu, 23359255 23359256
2016-2023 Malibu Front Struts – Complete Left and Right Assemblies with Coil Springs
These 2016-2023 Malibu front struts are sold as a pair of complete assemblies: one for the driver side and one for the passenger side of the Chevrolet Malibu. Each strut arrives with its coil spring, upper mount and dust boot already fitted, so the whole unit bolts in as one piece. The reference numbers are 23359255 for the left and 23359256 for the right. Easy Life Markets sells the two sides together because front struts should be changed as a pair.
The Malibu's front suspension is built around the strut. It locates the wheel, carries the weight of the car on its spring and damps every bump through the shock absorber inside the tube. As the damper wears, the car takes longer to settle after a bump, leans more in corners and needs more road to stop. The spring and the upper mount age too, which is why a complete assembly makes more sense than a bare strut on a car with some years behind it. The MacPherson strut article shows how this type of suspension is laid out.
What You Receive
- 1 x complete front strut with coil spring assembly, driver side (13511)
- 1 x complete front strut with coil spring assembly, passenger side (13512)
As shown in the product photos, each assembly has the strut body with its lower bracket, the coil spring sitting on its seat, a ribbed rubber dust boot and the upper mount. The strut-to-knuckle bolts, sway bar links and top nuts for the body are not listed as included.

The supplier names the sides as driver and passenger. That matches left and right on a left-hand-drive car. Use the part numbers with L and R, or 23359255 and 23359256, if your car is right-hand drive.
Checking Fitment
The supplier lists this pair for the Chevrolet Malibu, 2016–2023, and gives no further detail on engine or trim. The supplier's own note is the best advice here: compare your part carefully with the photos and the reference numbers before ordering. In practice that means:
- Look up your original strut numbers by VIN in a GM parts catalogue and compare them with the lists above. A Malibu sold with a different suspension package may use a different strut.
- Compare the shape. Check the lower bracket, the position of the small brackets on the strut body and the upper mount in the photos against the struts on your car.
- Send us the details. If the numbers do not match or you cannot find them, contact us with your VIN and we will help you check.
How to Tell the Front Struts Are Worn
- The car keeps bouncing after a speed bump instead of settling in one movement
- The front dips hard when you brake
- Clunks or rattles from the front over broken road surfaces
- Oil streaks on the strut body
- Front tyres wearing in patches
- A creak or grinding feeling through the steering at low speed, which usually points to the upper mount and bearing
- A cracked or broken coil spring, or one front corner sitting low
Worn sway bar links and control arm bushes make similar noises. Check them while the wheels are off.
Fitting Notes
- Work on one side at a time, with the car on stands and the wheel removed.
- Unclip the brake hose and any sensor wiring from the brackets on the old strut before you undo the main bolts.
- Remove the sway bar link from the strut, then the bolts that hold the strut to the steering knuckle, and finally the nuts at the top of the strut tower. Hold the strut as the last nut comes off.
- Fit the new assembly in the reverse order and make sure the left unit goes on the left and the right on the right.
- Tighten everything to the torque figures in the service manual. Do not use an impact gun on the strut rod nut.
- Book a wheel alignment. The strut-to-knuckle bolts set the camber, and it will have moved.
Because the springs are already fitted, no spring compressor is needed. Even so, struts are safety-critical. If you are not experienced with suspension work, have a qualified mechanic fit them.
Complete Assembly or Bare Strut?
A bare strut is cheaper to buy, but you then have to compress the old spring, strip the old unit and reuse a mount, bearing and boot that are as old as the strut you are throwing away. A complete assembly replaces all of those parts in one go and cuts the fitting time considerably. For most owners, and for most workshops charging by the hour, it works out as the better deal.
Who These Struts Are For
This pair suits Malibu owners with tired or leaking original front struts, people who do their own repairs and want to avoid a spring compressor, and garages looking for an aftermarket left and right set under the 23359255 and 23359256 references.
Common Questions
Are these genuine GM parts? No. They are unbranded aftermarket assemblies sold under the reference numbers listed above. They are not made by General Motors or Chevrolet.
Are the left and right struts the same? No. They are handed. The package has one of each, and they carry different numbers.
Do I need an alignment afterwards? Yes. Any time front struts are removed, the alignment should be checked.
