Cadillac CTS MagneRide Rear Shocks – Left and Right Pair for 2009-2015 CTS

These Cadillac CTS MagneRide rear shocks are a left and right pair for 2009–2015 CTS models built with the electronically controlled MagneRide suspension. The supplier describes them as a replacement for the GM MagneRide rear strut and lists them under the numbers 25849149 for the rear left and 25849150 for the rear right. Both shocks are black. Easy Life Markets sells them together so the rear axle gets a matched pair.

MagneRide is not an ordinary damper. The fluid inside reacts to a magnetic field, and the car's control unit changes that field many times a second to make the shock firmer or softer as the road and your driving demand. It gives the CTS a calm ride and tight body control from the same hardware. The drawback is that a worn or leaking unit cannot be swapped for a plain shock without the car noticing. You need a part made for the system. The MagneRide article explains the technology in more detail.

What Is Included

  • 1 x rear left shock absorber
  • 1 x rear right shock absorber

The product photo shows each shock with its upper mounting plate and studs, a dust cover over the upper body and a forked lower mount. Installation instructions are not included, and the supplier does not list lower bolts or other fixings in the package.

Compatibility

The supplier lists this pair for the Cadillac CTS, 2009–2015, with the electronic suspension. Its fitment table gives these trims and engines:

  • 2015: V, 6.2L V8
  • 2014: Base, Luxury, Performance, Premium, V, Vsport, Vsport Premium; 2.0L L4, 3.6L V6 (petrol and flex-fuel), 6.2L V8
  • 2013: Base, Luxury, Performance, Premium, V; 3.0L V6, 3.6L V6 flex-fuel, 6.2L V8
  • 2010–2012: Base, Luxury, Performance, Premium, V; 3.0L V6, 3.6L V6, 6.2L V8
  • 2009: Base, V; 3.6L V6, 6.2L V8

Read that table with care. It names the trims the part may apply to, but it does not mean every car in those trims has MagneRide. Many CTS models were built with conventional shocks, and these will not suit them. The CTS was also redesigned during this period, so the model year alone is not enough. The supplier's own advice is to compare your part with the photos and the numbers, and we agree:

  1. Confirm your car has MagneRide. Your original rear shocks will have an electrical connection, and the option is shown on the car's build sheet or option code label.
  2. Match the part number. Look for one of the numbers above on your old shocks, or look them up by VIN in a GM parts catalogue.
  3. Compare the mounts. Check the upper plate and the forked lower mount in the photos against your car.

If you would like a second opinion, send us your VIN before ordering.

Signs the Rear Shocks Need Replacing

  • A "service suspension system" message, or a stored code for a rear damper
  • Dark, oily fluid on the shock body
  • The rear of the car bounces or wallows over undulations
  • The back end feels loose or steps sideways over mid-corner bumps
  • Knocking from the rear over sharp bumps
  • Uneven or cupped wear on the rear tyres

A damaged wiring plug or a broken wire to the shock can set the same warning message. Inspect the connector and harness before condemning the shock itself.

Installation Notes

The supplier strongly recommends professional installation and supplies no instructions. For those who do their own work, the main points are:

  • Support the car on stands and support the rear suspension arm with a jack before unbolting the shock, so the arm does not drop.
  • Disconnect the electrical plug carefully. The connectors become brittle with age.
  • Undo the upper mount fixings and the lower bolt, and remove the old shock.
  • Fit the left shock on the left and the right on the right. They carry different part numbers and are not interchangeable.
  • Do the final tightening of the lower bolt with the suspension at normal ride height, to the service manual torque.
  • Reconnect the plug, clear the fault codes and road test. Make sure no suspension message returns.

Rear shocks affect how the car handles and stops. If you are unsure about any step, use a qualified mechanic.

Why Replace Both Rear Shocks

The control unit expects both rear dampers to respond in the same way. A fresh shock on one side and a tired one on the other gives the car uneven control across the axle, and that is most noticeable in exactly the situations where you want the suspension to be predictable. The two sides have also covered the same distance. Changing them together avoids doing the job twice.

Who This Pair Is For

It is for owners of a MagneRide-equipped 2009–2015 CTS, including the CTS-V, with leaking or faulty rear shocks, and for workshops that want an aftermarket pair matched by number. It is not for a CTS with standard, non-electronic suspension.

Common Questions

Are these genuine GM parts? No. They are unbranded aftermarket shocks sold under the reference numbers listed above. They are not made by General Motors or Cadillac.

Will they fit a CTS without MagneRide? No. The supplier lists them only for cars with the electronic suspension.

Do they fit the front? No. Both shocks are for the rear axle.
