Camry RAV4 2.5L Alternator 2009-2015 – 290-5543, 6-Groove Pulley, 100A
Camry RAV4 2.5L Alternator, 100A, 6-Groove Pulley (Ref. 290-5543)
This Camry RAV4 2.5L alternator is a 100-amp, 12-volt unit for the Toyota four-cylinder 2.5 litre engine. The supplier lists it for the Toyota RAV4 (2009-2012), the Toyota Camry (2012-2015) and the Scion tC (2011-2016), under reference numbers that include 290-5543, 27060-36010 and 27060-0V010. Easy Life Markets sells it as one alternator with a 6-groove pulley fitted.
The 2.5 litre four is a dependable engine, but its alternator lives a hard life low down at the front of the block, where it collects heat, road spray and belt dust. After enough years the bearings get noisy or the output drops, and the battery light comes on. The automotive alternator article has a good cutaway explanation if you want to see what is inside.

Reading the Year Range Correctly
The product title says 2009-2015, and that needs a word of explanation. The range runs from the earliest RAV4 year to the latest Camry year. It does not mean every Camry from 2009. Here is the supplier's list exactly:
- Toyota RAV4, L4 2.5L, 2009-2012
- Toyota Camry, L4 2.5L, 2012-2015
- Scion tC, L4 2.5L, 2011-2016
A 2010 or 2011 Camry 2.5L is not on that list, and neither are V6 or hybrid versions of any of these cars. If yours falls outside the list, check the part number before going any further.
Cross-Reference Numbers
- 27060 series: 27060-36010, 27060-36011, 27060-0V010
- 104210 series: 104210-2270, 104210-2340, 104210-2341, 104210-2344, 104210-8432, 1042108430
- Other references: 290-5543, 11402, 90-29-5726
The supplier notes that brand names and numbers are given for compatibility reference only.
Confirming Fitment
- Find the label on your alternator. It usually shows a number starting 27060- and another starting 104210-. Match either against the lists above.
- Check the plug position. "Plug clock 12:00" describes where the connector sits when you look at the back of the unit like a clock face. Compare the photos with your own unit.
- Count the grooves on your pulley. This one has six.
- Use your VIN. A Toyota parts catalogue will confirm the number, or you can send the VIN to us and we will check it against this listing.
Is the Alternator Really the Problem?
Before you order, spend ten minutes with a multimeter. With the engine off, a healthy charged battery reads about 12.6 volts. Start the engine and the reading should climb to roughly 13.5 to 14.5 volts. If it does, the alternator is charging and your fault lies elsewhere, often a tired battery or a corroded terminal. If the voltage stays at battery level or falls as you switch on the lights and blower, the alternator or its wiring is at fault. Also look at the belt. A glazed or loose belt slips on the pulley and gives the same low reading.
What the Noises Mean
The supplier gives three pointers that we find useful:
- Noise that appears while the engine speed is changing usually comes from the belt. Check its condition and tension first.
- Noise from the front or rear of the alternator body suggests dry or worn bearings.
- Noise from the middle of the body with noticeable vibration suggests the rotor is touching the stator, and the unit needs repair or replacement.
Fitting It
The supplier's own outline goes like this: disconnect the negative battery cable; take off the intake hose, mass airflow sensor and air filter; loosen the belt tensioner and slip the belt off; unbolt and remove the old alternator; clean dust and oil from the mounting position; fit the new unit and reattach the bolts and connections; refit the belt; refit the intake parts; reconnect the battery.
A few points we would add. Keep the battery disconnected for the whole job, because the output cable is live otherwise. Lay the old and new units side by side before fitting. Tighten the fasteners to the service manual figures. If you have not worked on a charging system before, a professional mechanic is the safer route.
After the Swap
Charge the battery fully before the first drive, so the new alternator is not asked to recover a flat battery. Check the belt for cracks or glazing while it is off and replace it if it is marked. After a few days of driving, look at the belt tracking again and make sure the output cable nut is still tight.
Who This Alternator Suits
Owners of a listed RAV4, Camry or tC with the 2.5 litre four-cylinder who have matched a part number, and garages looking for a complete replacement unit with pulley.
Common Questions
Is it a genuine Toyota alternator? No. It is an unbranded aftermarket part. Toyota and Scion names are used for compatibility reference only.
Will it suit the Camry V6? The supplier lists the four-cylinder 2.5L only.
Can I fit a higher-output unit instead? This listing covers the 100A unit only. Fit the rating your car was built with unless a specialist advises otherwise.
