CR-V Front Camber Arms – Adjustable Upper Control Arms for 1997-2001 Honda CR-V

These CR-V front camber arms are a pair of adjustable front upper control arms, left and right, each supplied with its ball joint already assembled. They replace the fixed factory upper arms so that front camber can be set where you want it, and the supplier lists them for the Honda CR-V from 1997 to 2001. Easy Life Markets sells the two arms as a set.

The first CR-V uses double wishbone suspension at the front, with an upper and a lower arm on each side. The factory upper arm has no camber adjustment. Change the ride height and the top of each front wheel tilts, the tyre starts running on one edge of its tread, and the alignment shop has no adjuster to correct it. On these arms the ball joint is mounted on a plate that slides in and out, which moves the top of the knuckle and changes the camber. The supplier's description puts it this way: the arms let you fine-tune handling on a lowered car and stop the premature tyre wear caused by the front wheels riding on the inside tread.

What Is Included

  • 2 x front upper camber arms with ball joints preassembled, left and right

As shown in the product photos, each ball joint comes with a nut on its stud, and the adjuster plate is held by six socket-head bolts. Pivot bolts for the inner bushings and fitting instructions are not listed.

In the photos the arms are finished in grey with black bushings. The adjustment range is the supplier's figure; what you reach on the car depends on ride height and on the state of the other front suspension parts.

How the Adjustment Works

Each arm is a tubular A-shape with two bushed pivots at the body end. At the outer end, in place of a fixed ball joint, there is a flat plate with two slots. The ball joint is carried on that plate and clamped by six bolts. Slacken the bolts, slide the joint along the slots, and tighten them again: moving the joint outwards pushes the top of the wheel out, and moving it inwards pulls it in. The supplier notes that the adjustment is easy to reach and can be made without removing the arm from the vehicle. The supplier also says the hard rubber at the inner pivots is there to keep suspension deflection down and give a more direct feel.

Checking Fitment

The supplier gives one application: Honda CR-V, 1997–2001. There are no reference numbers, engine codes or trim details in the listing, so please confirm these points yourself:

  1. Model year. Check the plate in the driver's door opening. The supplier's list ends at 2001, and later CR-Vs are not covered.
  2. Position. These are front upper arms. If the part you need is the front lower arm, this is not it.
  3. Shape. Compare your original upper arm with the photos below: two inner bushings and one ball joint at the outer end.
  4. Questions. Send us your VIN and a photo of your current arm if you want help comparing it with the supplier's information.

When Front Camber Arms Are Worth Fitting

  • The car has been lowered and the front wheels lean in at the top
  • The front tyres are wearing on the inner edge only
  • An alignment report shows front camber out of range and no factory adjustment is available
  • The original upper ball joints have play or torn boots, and you would rather fit adjustable arms than standard replacements
  • You want to set camber deliberately for the way you use the car

Installation Tips

  • Before fitting, centre the ball joint plate in its slots and nip the six bolts up. That gives a neutral starting point.
  • Support the car on stands rated for its weight, and support the lower arm so the knuckle does not hang on the brake hose once the upper joint is released.
  • Use a ball joint separator to free the old joint from the knuckle. Do not hammer on the stud.
  • Tighten the inner pivot bolts with the suspension at ride height, and torque every fastener to the service manual figure.
  • Have the alignment set on a rack straight away. Camber changes toe, and toe is what destroys tyres quickly.
  • After the alignment, make sure all six adjuster bolts on each arm are fully tight, and check them again after the first few hundred kilometres.

Upper control arms and ball joints are safety-critical. If the adjuster bolts or the ball joint nut work loose, the wheel is no longer properly located. Have a qualified mechanic fit and align the arms unless you are experienced with suspension work.

Looking After the Arms

Inspect the ball joint boots and the adjuster bolts whenever the front wheels are off. If you raise or lower the car again, the camber moves with it, so plan on another alignment. Uneven tyre wear appearing later is the signal to have the settings rechecked.

Who These Arms Are For

Owners of lowered first-generation CR-Vs who are wearing out front tyres early, people restoring an older CR-V who want adjustable replacements for worn upper arms, and workshops that fit lowering springs and need a way to finish the alignment.

Common Questions

Are CR-V front camber arms needed on a standard-height car? Usually not. They are most useful after a ride height change, or when the alignment cannot be brought into range with the factory arms.

Are these genuine Honda parts? No. They are aftermarket arms. The ones in the photos carry Maxpeedingrods lettering.

Do the ball joints come fitted? Yes. The supplier lists both arms with the ball joint preassembled.
