Folding Chair Bed – 60 cm Lazy Sofa with 6-Position Backrest

This folding chair bed is a single-seat floor sofa, 60 cm wide, with a backrest that adjusts through six positions from an upright 105 degrees to completely flat. Folded up it is a deep, cushioned chair. Laid flat it becomes a narrow bed. Easy Life Markets sells it in two corduroy colours and two printed cotton-linen designs.

The supplier calls it a lazy sofa, which is a fair name. It is a thick, soft seat that sits directly on the floor, with a plump back cushion you can set to whatever angle suits reading, gaming, watching a film or sleeping. The supplier's photos show it in a small living room and bedroom, in cream with a brown stripe down the centre.

What Is in the Box

  • 1 × lazy sofa

The lamps, books and headphones in the supplier's photos are props.

Specifications

  • Type: Folding floor sofa and chair bed, single
  • Width: 60 cm (23.6 in)
  • Backrest: 6 positions, from 105° to 180°
  • Cover: Corduroy, or cotton-linen, by option
  • Filling: High-elastic sponge and polyester fibre, as shown in the supplier's graphics
  • Legs: None

The Four Options

  • Beige: The supplier's "milky white" corduroy. In its photos this is a cream chair with a brown stripe.
  • Dark Green: Dark green corduroy, with a contrast stripe in the supplier's photo.
  • Ink Flower Branch: Cotton-linen with an ink-painting print of flowering branches.
  • Ink Landscape: Cotton-linen with an ink-painting landscape print.

Corduroy is the softer and warmer of the two fabrics, with a fine ribbed pile. The supplier describes the cotton-linen as breathable. It is a flat, cool weave that suits warm rooms. Check the photo that appears when you select an option.

The Six Positions

The supplier's diagram shows the backrest clicking through six angles and suggests a use for each:

  1. Most upright, about 105°, for reading and homework
  2. Slightly reclined, for gaming
  3. Reclined, for watching television
  4. Further back, for listening to music and resting
  5. Nearly flat, for a nap
  6. Flat at 180°, as a bed

The supplier does not describe the mechanism in words. Floor sofas of this kind normally use a ratchet hinge: you lift the back to click it up through the positions, and push it fully forward to release it back to flat. Keep fingers away from the hinge when adjusting.

Size: What We Know and Do Not Know

The only measurement the supplier states is the width, 60 cm. It does not give the seat depth, the length when flat, the thickness of the cushion, the weight or a weight limit.

That means we cannot tell you whether it is long enough for you to sleep on at full stretch. If you plan to use it as a bed, ask us for the flat length before ordering. At 60 cm wide it is narrower than a standard single mattress, so even at its best it is a bed for one person and for occasional use.

A Straight Answer on the Details

  • Five or six positions. The supplier's text and its backrest diagram both say six. One of its other graphics says five. We go with six, as the more detailed source.
  • "No collapse after sitting for a long time". This phrase appears in the supplier's option names. It is a claim about the filling keeping its shape. No evidence is given, and all soft-fill seating compresses with use. Plump it regularly.
  • "Single/Double seat". One of the supplier's graphics mentions single and double versions. Only the 60 cm single is offered here.
  • Floor level. The seat is on the floor. Getting down and up takes more effort than with a normal chair.
  • Frame. A ratcheting backrest needs a metal frame inside. The supplier does not describe it.
  • Covers. The supplier does not say whether the cover is removable or washable.

About Folding Seat-Beds

This kind of seat is a relative of the futon, the Japanese bedding that is laid on the floor at night and folded away by day. The Western sofa-style futon and the folding floor sofa both take the same idea, one padded surface that serves for sitting and sleeping, and add a hinge so the back can be propped up. They suit small homes where a room has to do more than one job.

Where to Use It

  • In a studio flat or bedsit, as the main easy chair and a spare bed.
  • In a bedroom corner or under a window, as a reading seat.
  • In a games room or teenager's room.
  • In a home office, for a break away from the desk.

Use it on a rug or carpet. On a hard floor a legless seat can slide when you lean back.

Care

The supplier gives no care instructions, so these are general guidelines.

  • Vacuum with a soft brush attachment. On corduroy, work along the ribs.
  • Blot spills at once with a clean, dry cloth, and spot clean with a damp cloth and mild soap.
  • Do not soak the seat or machine wash it.
  • Plump the back cushion and turn the seat round now and then.
  • Keep it away from heaters, flames and strong sunlight.
