Hallway Console Table – 70.9 Inch Black Wood-Grain Entryway Table

This hallway console table is a long, narrow table in a black wood-grain finish, with a plank-style top and two wide panel legs. It measures 70.9 inches long, 15.7 inches deep and 31.5 inches high, and is made of MDF. Easy Life Markets sells it in black.

A console table earns its keep in the places other furniture will not fit: along a hallway wall, inside the front door, behind a sofa or under a window. At nearly six feet long, this one gives you a generous display surface while standing only 15.7 inches from the wall. The supplier's photos show it under a group of framed pictures with a lamp and a vase on top and baskets stored underneath, which is a good picture of how it is meant to be used.

What Is in the Box

The supplier does not provide a packing list. Its description says the table needs assembling and that clear instructions and tools are included. The supplier does not state the number of parts or the package size, so ask us if you need those before ordering.

A Straight Answer on the Details

  • It is MDF, not solid wood. The original title said "wooden". The supplier's description says the table is made of MDF, a wood-fibre board, with a wood-grain surface. It looks like stained timber in the photos and is not.
  • "Rustic brown veneer look". One of the supplier's photos carries that caption over a picture of the black table. The only colour offered is black, and that is what the photos show.
  • No drawers or shelf. It is an open table. Storage means baskets underneath, as in the photos.
  • Load. The supplier says the table has "enhanced load-bearing capacity" without giving a figure. Over a 180 cm span, we would keep heavy items such as a fish tank or stacks of books near the legs, not in the middle.
  • "Picket fence" design. The supplier uses the phrase for the vertical grooves on the legs.
  • Not stated: Weight, weight limit, board thickness, package size and whether a wall fixing is supplied.

About MDF

Medium-density fibreboard is made by breaking wood down into fibres and pressing them with resin into dense, flat panels. It is stable, smooth and free of knots, so it takes a printed or textured finish well and does not warp the way wide timber boards can. Its weak point is water. If moisture gets into an unsealed edge the board swells and does not recover, so wipe up spills promptly and keep the table out of damp rooms.

Will It Fit?

  • Length. You need a clear wall of at least 180 cm, with a little space at each end.
  • Hallways. The table stands 40 cm from the wall. Leave at least 90 cm of clear walkway beside it, so a hallway should be about 130 cm wide or more.
  • Behind a sofa. At 80 cm high, the top will sit level with or just above the back of most sofas. Measure your sofa back first. A table used this way should be no longer than the sofa.
  • Under a window or television. Check the sill height or the bottom edge of the screen against 80 cm.
  • Getting it in. It arrives in parts, so the box is easier to carry than a built table, but the top is still about 180 cm long.

Putting It Together

  • Assemble it on a rug or the flattened carton to protect the finish.
  • Fit all the fixings loosely first, then tighten them once everything lines up.
  • Get a second person to help turn it upright. Do not lever it up by one leg.
  • If the floor is uneven, put felt pads or thin shims under the low side so the table does not rock.
  • In a home with small children, secure it to the wall with a furniture strap. A long, narrow table can tip if climbed on.

Care

  • Dust with a soft, dry cloth, working along the grain texture.
  • Wipe marks with a slightly damp cloth and dry the surface straight away.
  • Use coasters, and a tray under plants and vases.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and polishes containing wax or silicone, which build up on textured finishes.
  • Keep it away from radiators and out of bathrooms and other damp rooms.

Who It Suits

Homes with a long hallway, an open-plan living room that needs a divider behind the sofa, or a wide entrance that needs a landing place for keys, post and a lamp.
