Motorcycle Master Cylinder Reservoir Elbow Kit

This motorcycle master cylinder reservoir elbow kit is a small four-piece set for push-type (direct push) hydraulic master cylinders that use a separate fluid reservoir. It contains the plastic elbow fitting that joins the reservoir hose to the top of the master cylinder, a rubber seal, a retaining circlip and an O-ring. Easy Life Markets sells it as a universal-style repair kit for riders and workshops who need to replace a cracked, leaking or missing elbow on a rear brake or hydraulic clutch master cylinder.

On many bikes, the rear brake master cylinder sits low on the frame and is fed by a small remote reservoir. The elbow fitting is the part that connects the two. Because it is plastic and sits close to the rider's foot and the road, it can crack from age, heat, or a knock, and a worn seal lets brake fluid seep out. When that happens, air can get into the system and the pedal starts to feel soft. Replacing the elbow and its seals is a cheap fix that restores a clean, sealed fluid feed.

What Is Included

As shown in the dimension photo, the kit contains four pieces:

  • 1 x plastic elbow fitting (angled hose connector)
  • 1 x rubber seal / grommet
  • 1 x retaining circlip
  • 1 x O-ring

The master cylinder, reservoir, hose and brake fluid are not included.

Measurements are taken from the supplier's dimension photo and are approximate, so please compare them with your own parts.

Checking Fitment

The supplier describes this kit as universal, but master cylinders differ in the size of the reservoir inlet, the circlip groove and the hose diameter. Before ordering, check these points on your bike:

  1. Master cylinder type: this kit is for push-type master cylinders with a remote reservoir connected by a hose. It is not for handlebar master cylinders with a built-in reservoir.
  2. Inlet size: measure the bore on top of your master cylinder where the elbow sits, and compare it with the seal and O-ring sizes above.
  3. Circlip: compare the old circlip with the 16 mm circlip in this kit.
  4. Hose size: make sure your reservoir hose fits snugly over the 7.7 mm spigot.

If you are unsure, send us a photo of your master cylinder and we will help you compare before you order.

Signs the Elbow or Seals Need Replacing

  • Brake or clutch fluid seeping around the top of the master cylinder
  • A cracked, brittle or discolored elbow fitting
  • Fluid level dropping in the reservoir with no other visible leak
  • A soft rear brake pedal after the system has been bled
  • A missing circlip, allowing the elbow to twist or lift out

How to Fit the Kit

  • Protect nearby paintwork, as brake fluid damages paint. Wipe up spills straight away.
  • Clamp or pinch the reservoir hose to limit fluid loss, then disconnect it from the old elbow.
  • Remove the circlip with circlip pliers and pull the old elbow and seals out of the master cylinder.
  • Clean the bore, lightly wet the new O-ring and seal with the correct brake fluid, and press the new elbow into place.
  • Refit the circlip so it sits fully in its groove, then reconnect the hose with its clip.
  • Top up the reservoir with the fluid type specified for your bike and bleed the system until the pedal or lever feels firm.

Brakes are safety-critical. If you are not confident bleeding a hydraulic brake or clutch, have a motorcycle mechanic fit the kit.

Why Replace the Whole Set

The elbow, seals and circlip work together to keep the joint sealed. An old O-ring can harden and flatten even when the elbow looks fine, so fitting all four new pieces at once is the most reliable way to stop a seep coming back. The parts are inexpensive, and having the complete set means you do not have to take the joint apart twice.

A Quick Word on Brake Fluid

Most motorcycle brake and hydraulic clutch systems use glycol-based DOT fluid, while some use mineral oil. The rubber seals in a hydraulic system are made to suit one type, so always use the fluid printed on your reservoir cap or in your owner's manual, and never mix types. You can read more about brake fluid types and why they must not be mixed.

Who This Kit Is For

This kit suits riders repairing a leaking rear brake or clutch master cylinder, custom builders fitting a remote reservoir, and motorcycle workshops that keep common seals and fittings on the shelf.

Common Questions

Does it fit every motorcycle? No. Although it is sold as universal, you should compare the inlet, circlip and hose sizes with your master cylinder before ordering.

Is the reservoir included? No. The kit contains the elbow, seal, circlip and O-ring only.
