This pedestal sink cabinet is a white two-door storage unit that slides in around the column of a pedestal basin, or sits under a wall-hung basin, using a U-shaped cut-out at the back to clear the pipes. Measure first. The cut-out is 8.7 × 7.9 inches. If your pedestal or waste trap is wider, or your basin sits lower than about 60 cm, the cabinet will not fit under it. The photos show a gap left between the cabinet top and the basin.

About the Materials

Like most flat-pack bathroom furniture at this price, the cabinet is built from particle board and MDF. Both are made from wood fibres or chips bonded with resin and pressed into flat, stable boards that take paint well and do not warp the way solid timber can. Their weak point is water. Once the paint is broken at an edge or a screw hole, the board can swell, so the cabinet lasts longest when splashes are wiped up and the room is ventilated.

Pedestal Basin or Wall-Hung Basin?

The supplier's photos show two ways to use the cabinet. With a pedestal basin, the column passes through the U cut-out at the back and the cabinet hides it from the front. With a wall-hung basin that has no pedestal, the waste pipe drops through the same cut-out and the cabinet sits neatly underneath. In both cases the cabinet stands on the floor and does not carry the weight of the basin. Leave the small gap shown in the photos between the cabinet top and the underside of the basin, so the basin is not pressing on the cabinet and you can still reach the tap connections if a washer needs replacing.
