032905106B Ignition Coil Pack for 4-Cylinder Engines

The 032905106B ignition coil is a block-style coil pack for four-cylinder engines, also sold under the numbers 032905106 and 032905106E. It is a single unit with four high-tension towers, one for each spark plug lead, and a multi-pin connector for the engine wiring. Easy Life Markets sells it as one coil pack with an ABS housing measuring about 12 x 8 x 5 cm.

This is a different design from the pencil coils found on many newer engines. Here one module does the work for all four cylinders. Inside the housing are the coil windings, and they fire the plugs through the spark plug leads. Because everything is in one sealed block, a fault in any part of it means replacing the whole pack. If you want to know more about how the voltage is stepped up, the ignition coil article is a good place to start.

Checking Fitment

The supplier gives the three reference numbers and the cylinder count, and does not name any vehicles. The numbers are written in the format Volkswagen Group uses for its parts, so this is a part you buy by number, not by model. To check it is right for your engine:

  1. Read the number on your old coil pack. It is moulded or printed on the housing. You are looking for 032 905 106 with or without a letter B or E after it.
  2. Count the towers. There should be four, each taking a spark plug lead.
  3. Look at the connector. Compare the shape and pin count of your wiring plug with the socket shown in the photos.
  4. Measure the old unit. It should be close to 12 x 8 x 5 cm, with mounting holes in the same positions.
  5. Confirm with your VIN. A dealer or online parts catalogue can tell you the coil number for your engine code. You can also contact us with the VIN and we will help you check.

If your old part ends in a different letter, do not assume it is the same. Letter changes sometimes mark a different connector or internal design.

Signs the Coil Pack Is Failing

  • Misfires on two cylinders at once. Many packs of this type fire the cylinders in pairs, so paired misfires are a strong clue.
  • Rough running in damp weather that clears up when the engine is hot and dry
  • Visible hairline cracks or burn marks on the housing or around the towers
  • The engine cuts out when hot and restarts after cooling
  • An engine warning light with misfire codes
  • A ticking sound from the coil area, sometimes with a faint spark visible in the dark

Installation Tips

  • Switch the ignition off and let the engine cool.
  • Before you pull anything, label each lead with its cylinder number. The towers on the pack are normally marked, and the leads must go back in the same order. Getting two crossed will make the engine run badly or not at all.
  • Pull the leads off by the boot, not by the cable.
  • Release the wiring connector, undo the mounting bolts and lift the pack away.
  • Fit the new pack, tighten the bolts evenly and reconnect the wiring plug until it locks.
  • Push each lead on until you feel it click onto the tower.

The job is straightforward, but ignition systems produce very high voltage. Never touch the leads or the pack with the engine running. If you are not sure about any step, ask a qualified mechanic.

Check the Leads and Plugs While You Are There

A coil pack rarely fails alone. Old leads with high resistance and plugs with worn gaps make the coil work harder and can burn out a new one early. Inspect each lead for cracks, corrosion in the ends and stiffness in the insulation, and look at the plug gaps. If the leads are original and the car has covered a high mileage, replacing leads, plugs and pack together is the lasting repair.

Why Damp Weather Finds Weak Coils

Moisture gives high voltage an easier path to earth than the spark plug gap. A coil pack with tiny cracks may run perfectly on a dry day and misfire on a wet morning. If your problem comes and goes with the weather, look closely at the housing in good light. Fine tracking lines, like pencil marks, show where the spark has been escaping.

Who This Coil Pack Is For

It is for owners and workshops replacing a unit that carries one of the three listed numbers on a four-cylinder engine. If you have the old part in your hand and the number matches, this is a simple like-for-like purchase.

Common Questions

Is this a genuine Volkswagen Group part? No. It is an aftermarket coil pack sold under the reference numbers. It is not a genuine part of the vehicle maker.

Which cars does it fit? The supplier does not list vehicles. Match the number on your old coil pack and confirm with your VIN.

Are spark plug leads included? No. Only the coil pack is listed.
