2013-2017 Accord Alternator, 110 Amp, for Honda Accord 2.4L with CVT Automatic

This 2013-2017 Accord alternator is a 12-volt, 110-amp replacement unit that the supplier lists for the four-cylinder 2.4 litre Honda Accord with the automatic CVT transmission. It turns clockwise, has a 7-groove clutch pulley, and carries the reference numbers 31100-5A2A02 and A005TL0581 among others. Easy Life Markets sells it as a single alternator, ready to bolt in place of a worn original once you have confirmed the match.

The alternator is what keeps the car running once the engine has started. It feeds the ignition, fuel injection, lights, blower and infotainment, and puts back what the starter took out of the battery. When it stops charging, the car carries on for a short while on battery power alone and then dies, usually at a bad moment. There is a clear explanation of the principle in the automotive alternator article.

Which Accords the Supplier Lists

  • Honda Accord Sport, automatic transmission, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017
  • Honda Accord non-Sport, automatic transmission, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017
  • Engine and gearbox: 4-cylinder 2.4 litre with auto CVT transmission

Notice what is missing from that list. The V6 Accord and the manual-gearbox four-cylinder are not named, so do not assume this unit suits them. To confirm before ordering:

  1. Check the number on your old unit. Look for 31100-5A2A02 or A005TL0581 on its label.
  2. Count the pulley grooves. This one has seven.
  3. Run your VIN through a Honda parts catalogue, or send it to us and we will check it against the numbers above.

The supplier itself asks buyers to double-check compatibility and the part number before purchasing. Trim names vary from market to market, so match the engine and gearbox, not the badge on the boot lid.

What the Clutch Pulley Does

A plain alternator pulley is locked to the rotor shaft. A clutch pulley drives the rotor in one direction and lets it freewheel in the other. When the engine speed drops suddenly, for example on a gear change or when you lift off the throttle, the heavy rotor can keep spinning without jerking the belt. That takes load off the belt and the tensioner and cuts belt chatter at idle. It also means the pulley itself is a wearing part. On the old unit, a clutch pulley that has seized or that slips in both directions will cause belt noise or poor charging even when the alternator's electrical parts are still good.

How a Failing Alternator Shows Up on an Accord

  • The battery warning lamp comes on, sometimes with other warning lights as system voltage falls
  • Headlights and cabin lights fade at idle
  • The engine cranks slowly in the morning and the battery needs a boost again and again
  • A rattle or chirp from the belt area, which often points to the clutch pulley
  • A whine or growl from worn bearings that follows engine speed
  • The car stalls in traffic and will not restart

Have the battery tested as well. A battery with a dead cell will drag a good alternator down and give misleading readings.

Installation Notes

  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal before touching the alternator wiring.
  • Take a photo of the belt routing, then release the automatic tensioner and remove the belt.
  • Unplug the connector, undo the output cable nut and remove the mounting bolts.
  • Place the old and new units together and compare the mounting points, the plug and the pulley.
  • Fit the new unit, torque the fasteners to the service manual figures and refit the belt so it sits in all seven grooves.
  • Reconnect the battery, start the engine and check for roughly 13.5 to 14.5 volts at the battery.

The supplier states that professional installation is highly recommended, and we agree. A slipped belt or a loose output cable can leave you stranded or damage the wiring.

Worth Doing at the Same Time

Inspect the drive belt for cracks, glazing or missing ribs and replace it if it is marked. Spin the tensioner and idler pulleys by hand and listen for rough bearings. Clean the battery terminals and the earth strap connection. Then charge the battery fully with a mains charger, so the new alternator is not asked to recover a flat battery on its first drive.

Who This Part Is For

It is for owners of four-cylinder, CVT-equipped Accords from the listed years, and for the independent garages that service them, once the part number has been matched.

Common Questions

Is this a genuine Honda alternator? No. It is an unbranded aftermarket unit. The Honda-style numbers are given for cross-reference only.

Will it suit the Accord V6? The supplier lists the 2.4 litre four-cylinder with CVT only.

Does the amperage have to match? Fit the same rating as the original. The supplier gives 110A for this unit, and a lower-rated alternator may not keep up with the car's electrical load.

Is the pulley included? Yes. The 7-groove clutch pulley is part of the unit, as the photos show.
