4 Tier Garage Shelving Unit – 40 Inch Boltless Steel Rack with MDF Shelves, Black
4 Tier Garage Shelving Unit – 40 Inch Steel Rack with MDF Shelves
This 4 tier garage shelving unit is a black, boltless steel rack with four MDF shelf boards, measuring 40 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 57 inches high. The supplier rates it at 600 lb per shelf and 2,400 lb in total. Easy Life Markets sells it in black.
It is a deep, wide rack for bulky things. At 20 inches front to back it takes storage crates, paint tins, tool cases and car tyres without them hanging over the edge, and at 57 inches it stays below shoulder height, so the top shelf is easy to reach. The supplier's photos show it in a garage with oil containers and tyres, and in a kitchen with a microwave and food boxes.
What Is in the Box
The supplier's specification panel lists the following with the rack:
- 1 × rubber hammer with metal handle
- 16 × rubber foot pads
- 1 × pair of gloves
- 2 × anti-tip kits
- 4 × column connectors
The rack itself arrives in parts: steel uprights, beams and four shelf boards. The beams hook into slots in the uprights and are tapped home with the hammer, so no bolts are needed.

A Straight Answer on the Details
- The load figures. 600 lb per shelf is the supplier's rating. Ratings like this assume the weight is spread evenly across the whole shelf, the rack is correctly assembled and it stands on a hard, level floor. We have not tested it. The rack itself weighs 18.4 kg, so use sensible margins, put the heaviest items on the bottom shelf and never concentrate a big load in the middle of a board.
- MDF shelves and damp. The shelf boards are MDF, a wood-fibre board. It is strong when dry. If it gets wet it swells and loses strength. In a damp garage or shed, keep liquids in trays and wipe up spills.
- Fix it to the wall. Two anti-tip kits are listed. Use them. A loaded rack can tip if it is climbed on, pulled or knocked.
- Brand. The supplier's listing for this rack names no brand. We sell it as an unbranded item.
- Not stated: Steel thickness, the spacing of the adjustment slots and the package size.
About Shelving
A shelf is the simplest piece of storage there is: a flat surface held up off the floor. What changes between a bookcase and a garage rack is how it is supported. Boltless racks like this one use slotted steel uprights and hook-in beams, a design borrowed from warehouse shelving. It goes together quickly, comes apart again for a move, and lets you set each shelf at the height you need.
Where to Use It
- Garage: Oil, coolant, tool cases, car care kit and seasonal tyres.
- Workshop or shed: Power tools, paint and fixings in crates.
- Basement or storeroom: Boxes, luggage and camping gear.
- Kitchen or pantry: Small appliances and bulk food, as in the supplier's photos.
- Shop or stockroom: Cartons and stock at a reachable height.
Allow a floor space of about 102 × 51 cm, plus room in front to lift things on and off.
Putting It Together
- Wear the gloves. Pressed steel has sharp edges.
- Build it lying down or with a helper. Hook the beams into the same slot on each upright so the shelves are level.
- Tap each beam down with the rubber hammer until the tabs are fully seated.
- Fit the foot pads, stand the rack up and drop in the boards.
- Fit the anti-tip kits to the wall before loading.
- Load from the bottom up.
Loading It Sensibly
- Heaviest items go on the bottom shelf, lightest on the top.
- Spread weight across the full width of a board, front to back as well as side to side.
- Keep liquids low, so a leak does not run over everything beneath.
- Leave the things you use most between waist and chest height.
Care
- Wipe the frame with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
- Keep the boards dry. Stand leaking containers in a tray.
- Touch up chipped coating to stop rust.
- Check the beams are still seated after moving the rack or after a heavy knock.
- Do not climb on the shelves.
Who It Suits
Home mechanics, DIYers and anyone clearing a garage or basement floor who needs deep shelves at a reachable height.
