Bathtub Tray Table – Bamboo Side Table, Height 16.92 to 30.31 Inches

This bathtub tray table is a small freestanding side table that stands on the floor beside the bath, with an oval bamboo top that you can raise over the rim of the tub and turn to face you. The top has a slot for a phone or tablet, grooves for a cup or snacks and a cut-out for the stem of a wine glass. It sits on a black steel pole with a matching bamboo base, and the height adjusts from 16.92 to 30.31 inches. Easy Life Markets sells it in natural bamboo, listed as beige.

A traditional bath caddy spans the tub from side to side, which is fine on a built-in bath but often too short for a freestanding tub, and useless on one with a high curved rim. A tray table like this one does not rest on the bath at all. It stands next to it, so it works with clawfoot, slipper, freestanding and built-in tubs alike. When you are not in the bath it can stand beside a sofa or a bed as a narrow side table, as the supplier's photos show.

What Is in the Box

  • 2 x bamboo panels (top and base)
  • 2 x brackets
  • 8 x screws
  • 2 x height adjustment screws
  • 1 x screwdriver
  • 4 x foot pads
  • 1 x user manual

The supplier says assembly takes about three minutes, as the screw holes are pre-drilled.

A Straight Answer on the Details

  • The 2 kg limit is low. The top is rated for 4.4 lb. A tablet, a glass and a candle are fine. A large book, a full bottle and a plate of food together may be too much. Do not lean on it to get in or out of the bath.
  • Electronics over water. The photos show a tablet and phone on the top. Keep any mains-powered device well away from the bath. A battery device that falls in the water will most likely be ruined.
  • "Rustproof" steel. The supplier describes the steel parts as rustproof. We would call them coated steel. Wipe off drips, especially around the adjustment screws, and the coating will last longer.
  • "C-shaped". The supplier calls it a C-shaped table. In the photos it is a single offset pole between two oval panels, so the top reaches over the rim while the base sits on the floor.
  • Not stated: Pole diameter, finish of the steel and whether the coating is food-safe.

Bathtubs and Where This Fits

A freestanding bathtub has no ledge, wall or tiled surround to put things on, so soap, a drink and a towel usually end up on the floor. A floor-standing tray table puts them at arm's height. Measure the height of your tub rim from the floor and check it falls inside the 43 to 77 cm range.

How to Set It Up

  1. Screw the brackets to the bamboo top and base using the pre-drilled holes.
  2. Join them with the pole and stick the four foot pads under the base.
  3. Loosen the adjustment screws, set the height just above your tub rim and turn the top to face you.
  4. Tighten the screws firmly before loading the top.

Check Before You Buy

Measure from the floor to the top of your bath rim. The top of the table should sit a little above it, so a rim between about 40 and 74 cm works best. Also check there is floor space beside the tub for the oval base, about 22 × 40 cm. On a tiled floor the foot pads help it stand steady; on a bath mat it can tilt, so place the base on the hard floor if you can.

Care

  • Wipe the bamboo with a damp cloth and dry it, as the supplier suggests.
  • Do not leave standing water on the top or soak the base.
  • Let the bathroom ventilate after use so the bamboo can dry.
  • Check the adjustment screws are tight every few weeks.

Who It Suits

Anyone with a freestanding or clawfoot bath, or a tub too wide for an ordinary bath caddy, who wants a drink, a book or a film within reach. It also works as a compact side table by a bed or sofa.
