The DZ09 smart watch is a square-faced watch with a 1.56 inch touch screen, a slot for a SIM card and a memory card, and a small camera above the display. It pairs with a phone over Bluetooth for calls, message alerts and music, counts steps, and can also make calls by itself with a SIM fitted. Easy Life Markets sells it in full black, black, gold and white.

The DZ09 is one of the best known low-cost phone watches, and it has been sold for years in much the same form. It is a simple device with its own basic software. It does not run phone apps and it is not a modern fitness watch. Bought with that understood, it is an inexpensive way to get call and message alerts on the wrist.

Read This Before Buying for the SIM Function

The watch's own phone function uses GSM, the 2G mobile standard, on the four bands listed above. It has no 3G, 4G or 5G radio. Mobile operators in many places have switched off their 2G networks or are in the process of doing so. Where 2G is gone, a SIM in this watch will not make calls, send texts or use data, whatever the SIM is.

Check with your mobile operator that it still runs a 2G GSM service on one of these bands before you buy the watch for standalone calling. If it does not, the watch still works as a Bluetooth companion to your phone, as described below.

Phone compatibility. The supplier lists Android. On watches of this type, notification sync needs a companion app that is made for Android. With an iPhone, expect Bluetooth calls and music at most, and do not expect message sync.
Memory. One part of the supplier's data says 32+32MB and another says 64M+64M. Either is very small. Fit a TF card if you plan to take photos or store music.
Health monitoring. The supplier's feature list uses that phrase. The functions actually described are step counting, sedentary reminders and sleep tracking. No heart rate sensor is listed, and we do not claim one.
Water resistance. None is listed. Keep it away from water.
Camera. The figure given is 1.3 million pixels. Expect small, soft snapshots.
Browser and chat apps. The supplier mentions a browser over the SIM's data connection. On a 2G link and a 240 pixel screen this is of little practical use, and it will not work at all where 2G is unavailable.

Charge the watch fully with the supplied cable.
If you are using a SIM or a TF card, switch the watch off and fit them as the manual shows.
Switch on and set the language, time and date.
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and pair it with the watch from the watch's Bluetooth menu.
For notifications on Android, install the companion app shown in the manual and allow it access to notifications.
Choose a clock face and set the step goal and reminders.

Battery and Care

A 380 mAh battery is small. Bluetooth calls and the screen are the main drains. The supplier gives no run time, so plan to charge daily if you use it heavily.

Do not leave it charging overnight on soft furnishings.
