F-150 5.0L Alternator, 220A, for 2011-2014 Ford F-150 V8

This F-150 5.0L alternator is a 220-amp, 12-volt unit that the supplier lists for the Ford F-150 pickup with the 5.0 litre V8 (4951cc, 302cid) from 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. It rotates clockwise, has an internal regulator and a 6-groove pulley, and is sold under references including 11532, 104210-6270, 104210-6660 and AL3T-10300-CA. Easy Life Markets sells it as a single alternator, and the supplier gives its condition as new.

A truck asks more of its charging system than most cars do. Trailer lights and brake controllers, work lamps, inverters, heated seats and long hours at idle all draw current, and the alternator has to cover the lot while keeping the battery full. That is why the rating is the first thing to check on a replacement. If you want the theory, the automotive alternator article explains how output is produced and regulated.

What Is Included

  • 1 x alternator, as shown in the pictures

The supplier states that no instructions are included. Mounting bolts and a belt are not listed either.

Fitment According to the Supplier

  • Ford F-150, V8 5.0L 4951cc 302cid, 2011
  • Ford F-150, V8 5.0L 4951cc 302cid, 2012

  • Ford F-150, V8 5.0L 4951cc 302cid, 2014

Only the 5.0 litre V8 is named. The F-150 was sold with other engines in those years, and they are not on this list, so do not order for them on the strength of the model name. The supplier also says that even when your truck appears in the compatibility list, you should double-check the fitment details and photos before ordering. Here is how:

  1. Read the tag on the old alternator. Ford units carry an engineering number in the AL3T-10300 or CL3T-10300 style. Compare it with the references above.
  2. Check the amperage on the tag. F-150s were built with more than one alternator rating depending on options. This unit is 220A.
  3. Compare the photos. Look at the mounting ears, the plug and the pulley.
  4. Use your VIN at a Ford parts counter, or send it to us and we will compare it with this listing.

Thinking About 220 Amps

If your truck left the factory with a 220A alternator, this is a like-for-like rating. If your original tag shows a lower figure, ask a Ford specialist before fitting a higher-output unit. The plug and mounting may or may not be the same, and the charging cable and fuse were sized for the alternator the truck was built with. We cannot confirm from the supplier's data that this unit is a suitable upgrade for trucks built with a smaller one.

Signs Your Truck's Alternator Is Failing

  • Battery warning light, or a "check charging system" message
  • Voltage gauge reading low or swinging about
  • Lights that dim when the blower, wipers or trailer lights are switched on
  • A battery that is flat after the truck has stood overnight
  • Whine, growl or rattle from the front of the engine
  • A hot or burning smell near the alternator

Rule out the simple things first: battery condition, clean and tight battery terminals, a sound engine earth strap and a drive belt that is not slipping.

Installation Tips

  • Disconnect the negative battery cable and keep it clear of the post.
  • Sketch or photograph the belt routing. Then rotate the tensioner to release the belt.
  • Unplug the regulator connector, remove the nut and cable from the output stud and take out the mounting bolts.
  • Set the old and new units side by side and confirm the mounts, plug and pulley are the same.
  • Fit the new alternator and torque the bolts and the stud nut to the Ford service manual figures. A loose output nut on a 220A unit will overheat.
  • Refit the belt, reconnect the battery, start the engine and check for about 13.5 to 14.5 volts at the battery.

The unit comes without instructions and weighs several kilograms. If you are not used to this kind of work, have a qualified mechanic fit it.

Small Jobs That Protect the New Unit

Charge the battery fully from a mains charger before the first drive. Replace a belt that is cracked, glazed or contaminated with oil. Fix any oil or coolant leak above the alternator, because fluid dripping into the housing shortens its life. Check that add-on accessories are fused and wired properly.

Who This Is For

Owners of 2011-2014 F-150 trucks with the 5.0L V8, fleet operators running these trucks, and workshops that want a complete unit matched by Ford reference number.

Common Questions

Is this a genuine Ford or Motorcraft alternator? No. It is an unbranded aftermarket part. The Ford numbers are listed for cross-reference only.

Will it suit the 3.5L or 6.2L F-150? The supplier lists the 5.0L V8 only.

Does it come with a pulley? Yes. The 6-groove pulley is fitted, as the photos show.

How heavy is the parcel? The supplier gives a package weight of 7.5 kg and a package size of 23 x 20 x 19 cm.
