Fog Lamp Wiring Harness with Relay, Fuse and Switch

This fog lamp wiring harness is a ready-made loom for adding front fog lamps to a vehicle that never had them, or for rewiring a pair that someone connected badly. The supplier calls it a general wiring harness for fog lamp modification. The photos show a relay with a mounting tab, an inline blade fuse holder, a rocker switch with a fog lamp symbol, two sealed lamp plugs and ring terminals for the battery and earth. Easy Life Markets sells it as one complete harness.

Fog lamps draw more current than a dashboard switch should carry on its own. That is why a proper installation uses a relay: the switch only has to wake the relay up, and the relay passes battery power to the lamps through a fused feed. Building that circuit from loose wire, crimp terminals and a relay socket takes time and leaves plenty of room for mistakes. A pre-assembled loom has the relay, fuse and plugs already joined, so the work is mostly routing and connecting.

The supplier does not publish the cable length, the relay rating, the fuse rating or the working voltage, so we have not listed them. If one of those matters for your installation, ask us before you order and we will try to get the figure.

Will It Suit Your Vehicle?

This is a universal harness and the supplier names no makes or models. Whether it works for you comes down to four things you can check yourself:

  1. The lamp plugs. Compare the two sealed plugs in the photos with the sockets on your fog lamps or bulbs. If they differ, you would need adapter leads or different lamps.
  2. The switch opening. The switch is a rectangular rocker type made to push into a panel cut-out. Check you have a blank or a flat surface where it can go.
  3. Cable reach. The length is not stated. Measure the route from the battery to each lamp and from the engine bay to the switch position, then ask us for the length if it looks tight.
  4. Lamp power. Without a published relay or fuse rating, do not assume the loom will carry high-wattage lamps. Check the fuse fitted when it arrives and compare it with the current your lamps draw.

How the Circuit Goes Together

Looms of this type follow the same layout. The ring terminals go to the battery positive and to a good earth. The fused feed runs to the relay. The switch lead passes through the bulkhead into the cabin, and the two lamp plugs run forward to the bumper. When you press the switch, the relay closes and both lamps light. Many installers take the switch feed from a circuit that is only live with the side lights or ignition on, so the fog lamps cannot be left on by accident. Check the rules where you drive as well. Many places set out when front fog lamps may be used and how they must be wired.

Fitting Tips

  • Disconnect the battery before you start.
  • Mount the relay with its terminals pointing down, somewhere away from direct spray and exhaust heat.
  • Keep the fuse holder close to the battery end of the feed, where you can reach it.
  • Use an existing rubber grommet to pass the switch lead through the bulkhead. Never run a wire through a bare metal hole.
  • Tie the loom to existing harness runs with cable ties, clear of the fan, belts and steering parts.
  • Bolt the earth terminal to clean, bare metal. A poor earth is the usual reason for dim or flickering lamps.
  • Test both lamps and the switch indicator before refitting trim.

If you are not comfortable with vehicle wiring, an auto electrician can fit a harness like this quickly.

When a New Harness Makes Sense

  • You are adding aftermarket fog lamps and the car has no factory wiring for them
  • The existing lamps were wired straight to a switch with no relay or fuse
  • The old wiring has melted insulation, corroded plugs or taped joints
  • One lamp works and the other does not, and the fault is in the wiring, not the bulb

Who Buys It

DIY owners fitting fog lamps at home, people tidying up a previous owner's wiring, and small workshops that want a pre-assembled loom on the shelf for lighting jobs.

Common Questions

Are fog lamps included? No. The packing list is one fog lamp harness only.

Is the relay included? The photos show a relay, a fuse holder and a switch attached to the loom.

Is it for front or rear fog lamps? The supplier lists the type as front fog lamp.

Can I use it for LED fog lamps? The supplier does not say. Check that your lamps use the same plug and that their current draw is within the fuse fitted.
