VQ35DE Camshaft Sprocket Pair – 2Pcs VVT Camshaft Gear Sprocket for Infiniti G35 M35 Xterra V6 3.5L 4.0L
VQ35DE Camshaft Sprocket Pair – Variable Timing Cam Gears for Nissan and Infiniti 3.5L and 4.0L V6
This VQ35DE camshaft sprocket set is a pair of variable valve timing cam gears (cam phaser sprockets) for Nissan and Infiniti V6 engines. The listing covers the 3.5L VQ35DE and the 4.0L VQ40DE, used in models such as the Infiniti G35, FX35, M35, the Nissan 350Z, Altima, Maxima, Murano, Pathfinder, Frontier and Xterra. It replaces OEM numbers 13025-8J100, 13025-CD000, 13025-EA210, 13025-EA21A and 13025-EA22A. Easy Life Markets sells the gears as a pair, one for each cylinder bank.
On the Nissan VQ engine, the intake camshafts use variable valve timing, which Nissan calls CVTC. The sprocket on the front of each intake camshaft contains the mechanism that lets engine oil pressure advance or retard the camshaft. When these sprockets wear or stick, the engine can rattle, run poorly and set camshaft timing codes.
What Is Included
- 2 x variable valve timing camshaft sprockets (one per cylinder bank), as pictured

VQ engines went through several revisions, and the correct sprocket depends on the exact engine version. Please match the OEM number on your old sprocket or in your parts catalogue before ordering. The supplier's original list also named the Infiniti FX45 and M45, which use a V8 engine, and the 2001 Infiniti I30, which used a 3.0L engine; they are not included here.

Signs of Worn Cam Sprockets
- A rattle or knock from the front of the engine, often on cold start
- Camshaft position timing fault codes for bank 1 or bank 2
- Rough idle, hesitation or reduced power
- Poor fuel economy
Low oil level, dirty oil or a faulty timing control solenoid can produce similar symptoms. Check those first, and read the fault codes before replacing the sprockets.
Installation Notes
Replacing cam sprockets on a VQ V6 requires removing the front timing cover and working on the timing chains. Professional installation is recommended. Important points:
- Follow the factory procedure for your engine, including timing mark alignment on both banks.
- Inspect the timing chains, tensioners and guides while they are exposed, and replace any worn parts.
- Use new front cover gaskets or sealant as specified, and check the timing cover seals.
- Tighten sprocket bolts to the specified torque.
- Change the oil after the job and use the grade your manufacturer recommends.
Why Replace Both Sprockets
Both banks work under the same conditions and usually wear at a similar rate. Because the timing cover has to come off either way, replacing both at the same time avoids repeating the job if the other side fails later.
How the Variable Timing Sprockets Work
Each sprocket contains an internal chamber and vanes. Oil pressure, controlled by a timing control solenoid, moves the vanes and rotates the camshaft slightly relative to the sprocket. That lets the engine computer advance or retard intake valve timing to suit engine speed and load. If the internal parts wear, oil leaks past the vanes, or a locking pin sticks, the camshaft can move when it should not. The result is rattling, timing fault codes and poor running. Because the sprockets rely on oil, clean oil of the correct grade and regular changes are essential after replacement.
Who This Pair Is For
This pair suits independent workshops working on Nissan and Infiniti V6 engines, and experienced owners with the tools and service information to open the timing cover. If you are paying for timing chain labor, replacing both sprockets at the same time makes sense.
Common Questions
Is this sold as a pair? Yes, two sprockets are included.
Is it the intake or exhaust sprocket? The variable timing sprockets are on the intake camshafts. Compare with the photos and your OEM number.
