Wrangler Oxygen Sensor Set of 4 for Jeep Wrangler 3.6L, 3.8L and 4.0L

This Wrangler oxygen sensor set contains four O2 sensors and is listed by the supplier for the Jeep Wrangler with the 4.0L inline-six (2001–2006), the 3.8L V6 (2007–2011) and the 3.6L V6 (2012–2018). Each sensor is a four-wire, screw-in type with a stainless steel housing and a black four-pin plug. Reference numbers include 234-4029 and 234-4030. Easy Life Markets sells the four sensors together, for owners who want to renew every sensor in one go.

Most Wranglers in this range run four oxygen sensors: two ahead of the catalytic converters, which the engine computer uses to control fuelling, and two behind them, which watch how well the converters are working. They all age at about the same rate. When one sets a fault code, the others are usually not far behind, which is why many owners change the full set. For the theory, the oxygen sensor article covers how they produce their signal.

Package Contents

  • 4 x oxygen sensors

The supplier states that the threads are pre-coated with anti-seize compound and that each sensor has a protective cap over the tip for transport. A sensor socket is not included.

Check These Points Before Ordering

That is a long list of numbers for one type of sensor, and the four sensors in the photos look the same as each other. On many vehicles the sensors before and after the converter differ in lead length or plug keying. So even though the supplier lists your engine, please confirm the fit:

  1. Read the numbers on your old sensors. Check all four positions if you can, and compare each number with the list above.
  2. Compare the plug. The close-up photo shows a square four-pin plug. Match its shape and locking tab against the sockets on your Jeep.
  3. Measure the leads. A lead that is too short will not reach, and one that is too long has to be tied safely away from the exhaust. Ask us for the lead length if you need it.
  4. Use your VIN in a parts catalogue to see which sensor numbers your Wrangler takes.

The supplier adds its own note: even if your vehicle is shown in the compatibility list, double-check the fitment details and photos before ordering.

When Oxygen Sensors Are Due

  • Check engine light with a sensor circuit, heater or response code
  • A catalyst efficiency code, which can come from a tired rear sensor as well as from the converter
  • Fuel economy that has dropped off
  • Rough idle or hesitation, especially once the engine is warm

Exhaust leaks are common on older Wranglers and will upset the readings of a perfectly good sensor. Listen for a ticking leak at the manifold before spending money on sensors.

Fitting the Set

  • Work with the exhaust warm, not hot, and disconnect the battery.
  • Do one sensor at a time so the plugs cannot be mixed up.
  • Unplug the connector first, then use a slotted oxygen sensor socket.
  • Leave the protective cap on the new sensor until you are ready to thread it in, and keep the tip clean. The threads arrive coated, so no extra compound is needed.
  • Tighten to the service manual figure and clip each lead away from the exhaust and the driveshafts.
  • Clear the codes and drive through a full warm-up cycle.

The supplier states that professional installation is highly recommended. Sensors that have been in an exhaust for years can be very tight, and a workshop will have the heat and tools to get them out without damaging the threads.

Who This Set Is For

Wrangler owners doing a full sensor refresh, people chasing repeated sensor codes on a high-mileage Jeep, and independent 4x4 garages that have matched the reference numbers.

Common Questions

Are these genuine Mopar sensors? No. They are aftermarket sensors. The supplier's listing names maXpeedingrods as the maker, and the Mopar numbers are cross-references.

Are all four sensors the same? They look identical in the photos and the supplier gives one specification for all four. Compare them with your old ones before fitting.

Do I need anti-seize? The supplier states the threads are already coated.
