68210084AA NOx Sensor – Nitrogen Oxide Sensor with Control Module

This 68210084AA NOx sensor is a nitrogen oxide sensor for a diesel exhaust aftertreatment system. The supplier sells it under that one reference and describes it as a nitrogen-oxygen sensor made of metal and plastic. The photos show the usual two-part design: a probe that screws into the exhaust, joined by a sleeved cable to a metal control module with a plug socket. Easy Life Markets sells it as a single sensor, for diesel owners and workshops that have matched the number to the part on the vehicle.

A NOx sensor measures nitrogen oxides in the exhaust stream. On engines with selective catalytic reduction, the engine computer uses that reading to decide how much diesel exhaust fluid to inject and to check that the catalyst is doing its job. When the sensor fails, the system can no longer prove that emissions are under control. The result is a warning light, and on many vehicles a countdown to reduced power.

What the Label in the Photo Shows

One of the supplier's photos shows the back of the control module with two labels. They read SNS142B, 5WK96742B and A2C95991800-01 on the upper label, and Cummins/CES, NB1500 WGPZ, 4326873/A041S170 and SNS 12V Gen2.8 on the lower one. We pass that on because those numbers are useful for matching, and the 12V marking matters: NOx sensors are made in 12-volt and 24-volt versions that are not interchangeable. Please note that we are describing a photo. We cannot promise that the unit you receive carries the same labels, and the part is not a genuine Cummins or vehicle-maker item.

Vehicle Fitment: Please Match the Number

The supplier names no vehicle, model year or engine for this sensor. We are not going to guess one. The only safe way to buy a NOx sensor is by the numbers on the part you are replacing:

  1. Find your old sensor's label. It is on the control module, which is usually bolted to the frame or the exhaust shielding near the probe. Compare the numbers with 68210084AA and with the label numbers above.
  2. Check the position. Most systems have two NOx sensors, one before the catalyst and one after it. They look alike but carry different part numbers and are not interchangeable. Your fault code will say which one has failed.
  3. Check the voltage. The label in the photo shows 12V. A 24-volt truck system needs a different sensor.
  4. Compare the plug and the cable length with the photos.
  5. Use your VIN. A dealer or online parts catalogue will give the sensor number for your vehicle. Send it to us and we will compare it with this listing.

How a NOx Sensor Fails

  • Check engine light or emissions system warning
  • Stored codes for NOx sensor circuit, heater, signal range or performance
  • A message warning that speed or power will be limited after a set distance
  • Diesel exhaust fluid use that suddenly rises or falls

The probe has a ceramic element with its own heater. Water in the exhaust at cold start, soot and plain age all take their toll. That said, the same codes can come from exhaust leaks, poor-quality or diluted exhaust fluid, a blocked dosing injector or wiring damage. Have the system diagnosed properly before you order. It is easy to replace a sensor that was only reporting a real problem elsewhere.

Fitting Notes

  • Let the exhaust cool completely. Aftertreatment parts hold heat for a long time.
  • Disconnect the battery, then unplug the module and unbolt it.
  • Soak the probe threads with penetrating oil. Use a slotted sensor socket or a well-fitting spanner and steady pressure.
  • The probe and module are one sealed assembly. Do not cut or extend the cable between them.
  • Check the threads on the new probe. If they are not already coated, use a small amount of high-temperature anti-seize on the threads only.
  • Tighten to the service manual figure, bolt the module back in its original position and route the cable clear of hot surfaces.
  • Clear the fault codes. Many vehicles also need a reset or a drive cycle before the system accepts the new sensor, and some need this done with a diagnostic tool.

Because the reset step varies between vehicles, most owners have a diesel specialist do this job.

Who This Sensor Is For

Diesel owners and workshops who have a confirmed NOx sensor fault and a part label that matches 68210084AA or the numbers shown in the supplier's photo.

Common Questions

Which vehicles take the 68210084AA NOx sensor? The supplier does not list any. Match the number on your old sensor or look it up by VIN.

Is it the upstream or downstream sensor? The supplier does not say. Check which part number your vehicle uses in each position.

Is it a genuine part? No. It is an unbranded aftermarket sensor. The numbers are cross-references.

Is it 12V or 24V? The label in the supplier's photo reads 12V.
