87 Key Gaming Keyboard with Rainbow Backlight, USB Wired

This 87 key gaming keyboard is a compact, wired USB keyboard with a multi-colour backlight and raised keycaps. It leaves off the number pad, which brings it down to 36.5 x 13.5 x 3 cm and gives your mouse more room on the desk. The cable is 1.5 m long and the supplier lists it as a general-purpose game keyboard for notebooks and desktop computers. Easy Life Markets sells it as a single keyboard.

An 87-key layout is what keyboard people call tenkeyless. You keep the full typing block, the function row, the arrow keys and the navigation cluster, and lose only the numeric keypad on the right. For gaming that is a sensible trade: your mouse hand sits closer to your keyboard hand and your shoulders stay square. If you want to read about how different key mechanisms work, the article on keyboard technology covers them.

A Straight Answer on "Mechanical"

The supplier's original title calls this a mechanical keyboard. Its specification sheet says only "game keyboard" and names no switch type, brand or actuation force. Many backlit keyboards with tall floating keycaps like these are membrane boards built to look and feel like mechanical ones. We cannot confirm which this is, so we are not selling it as a true mechanical keyboard. If individual mechanical switches matter to you, ask us before ordering and we will put the question to the supplier.

About the Backlight

The photos show the light arranged in bands across the board: green on the left, then red, purple and blue towards the right. That is a fixed rainbow pattern, where each zone has its own colour. The supplier does not list any lighting modes, brightness steps or software, so do not expect per-key colour control. The raised keycaps let the light spill out round each key, which is the effect the supplier's picture calls a dazzling lighting effect, and it makes the legends easy to find in a dark room.

Will It Work with Your Computer?

  1. Port. It needs one standard USB-A port. A laptop with only USB-C ports needs an adapter or hub.
  2. System. The supplier lists it as general. A wired USB keyboard is recognised as a standard input device, so no driver is normally needed.
  3. Layout. The photos show a US-style layout with a Windows key. If you need a different language layout, this is not it.
  4. Desk space. Allow about 37 cm of width, plus room for the cable at the back.

Why Choose a Layout Without a Number Pad

A full-size keyboard pushes the mouse a long way out to the right, which turns the shoulder outwards for hours at a time. Dropping the number pad brings the mouse back in line with your arm and frees space for wide, low-sensitivity mouse movements in games. You keep the arrow keys, the function row and the block of navigation keys above the arrows, so nothing you use in everyday typing is missing. The one group who should think twice is people who enter a lot of figures in spreadsheets or accounts software. For that work a number pad is hard to give up.

Setting It Up

  • Plug the USB cable into the computer. The backlight comes on when it has power.
  • Flip out the two feet underneath if you like the keys tilted towards you.
  • Route the cable behind your monitor so it does not catch on the mouse.

Who It Suits

Gamers who want more mouse room, students and home-office users with small desks, and anyone who likes a lit keyboard for evening use. It also works as an external keyboard for a notebook that sits on a stand. People who enter a lot of numbers will miss the keypad and should look at a full-size board instead.

Care

Unplug the keyboard before cleaning. Turn it over and tap out crumbs, then brush between the keys with a soft brush. Wipe the keycaps with a slightly damp cloth and dry them. Raised keycaps make this easier than on a flush laptop-style board, because dust has nowhere to hide. Keep drinks away from it. The supplier makes no claim about spill resistance.

Common Questions

Is it wireless? No. It connects by a 1.5 m USB cable.

Does it have a number pad? No. It has 87 keys, without the numeric keypad.

Can I change the backlight colour? The supplier does not list colour modes. The photos show fixed colour zones.

Is there a brand? The supplier names none in its specification. A small logo is visible on the board in the photos, but it is not identified in the listing.
