Hyundai Sonata Alternator 2015-2019, 150A, Also Listed for Kia Optima, Sorento and Sportage (Ref. 11953)
This Hyundai Sonata alternator is a 150-amp, 12-volt replacement that the supplier lists for the 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 Sonata with the 2.0L or 2.4L four-cylinder engine. The same unit is listed for several Hyundai Santa Fe and Kia Optima, Sorento and Sportage models that share those engines. It rotates clockwise, has a 6-groove pulley, and is sold under references 37300-2G061, 104211-8790 and 11953. Easy Life Markets sells it as one complete alternator.
Modern cars lean heavily on their charging system. Electric power steering, heated seats, big touchscreens and a row of control units all need steady voltage, and they complain quickly when they do not get it. A weak alternator on one of these cars often shows up first as odd warning lights, before the battery finally goes flat. For the basics of how the unit works, see the automotive alternator article.

What the VIN Letters in the List Mean
Several lines carry a note such as "VIN B" or "VIN 3". In the catalogue system the supplier uses, that is the engine code character in the vehicle identification number, normally the eighth character. It separates engines of the same size that use different parts. So a 2.0L Sonata is only on this list where the engine character is B, and a 2.4L where it is F. Check that character on your own VIN plate before ordering. Engines not shown, such as the 1.6L turbo, hybrid and V6 versions of these models, are not listed.
How to Be Sure Before Ordering
- Match the part number. The original unit carries a label with a number in the 37300- format. Compare it with 37300-2G061.
- Check the engine code in your VIN against the list above.
- Compare the photos with your unit: mounting points, plug shape and the 6-groove pulley.
- Ask. Send us your VIN and we will compare it with the supplier's data.
The supplier asks buyers to double-check the compatibility and the part number before purchasing, and so do we.
Symptoms of a Tired Alternator on These Cars
- Battery warning light on while driving
- Several unrelated warning lights appearing together as system voltage drops
- Steering that feels heavy at low speed on cars with electric power steering
- Headlights that pulse or dim at idle
- A battery that needs repeated boosting
- Bearing whine or belt squeal from the accessory drive
Low voltage can come from a failing battery too. Have both tested. Replacing an alternator while leaving a battery with a dead cell in place is a common way to waste money.
Fitting Notes
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal first.
- Note the belt path, release the tensioner and remove the belt.
- Unplug the connector, remove the output cable from its stud and undo the mounting bolts.
- Compare old and new before fitting, then tighten all fasteners to the service manual torque.
- Refit the belt and battery lead, start the engine and confirm charging voltage of roughly 13.5 to 14.5 volts.
The supplier states that professional installation is highly recommended. On some of the listed models other components have to be moved to reach the alternator, which is another reason to use a workshop.
Look After the Battery Too
An alternator that has been failing for a while will have left the battery undercharged, and a battery that has sat low for weeks may be permanently weakened. Charge it fully with a mains charger and have it load tested. Clean both terminals and the earth connection to the body. Starting the new alternator's life against a sound, fully charged battery is the simplest way to help it last.
Who Buys This Part
Owners of the listed Hyundai and Kia four-cylinder models, and independent garages that want a complete 150A unit matched by reference number.
