This rattan storage bench is a two-seat outdoor bench with a box underneath: lift the seat and you have somewhere to keep cushions, garden gloves, pool toys or a hose out of sight. It has a PE rattan weave over an alloy steel frame, a backrest and armrests, a 2.8 inch seat cushion, and gas support rods that hold the lid up while you reach in. Easy Life Markets sells it in the colour the supplier lists as brown.

Patios, balconies and porches tend to collect clutter because there is nowhere to put it. A storage bench does two jobs in the space of one: it gives you a place to sit with a coffee and a place to hide the things you would otherwise trip over. The supplier's photos show a couple reading side by side on it in a garden, and an adult and a child sitting on it on a balcony.

What Is in the Box

The bench arrives flat and needs putting together. The supplier's photos show an installation guide in six steps, a hex key and a small spanner. You fit the side panels to the front and back, add the bottom panel, attach the lid and its gas struts, fix the backrest and place the cushion. The supplier does not give an assembly time. A Straight Answer on the Details

The 70 gallon figure. The original title says 70 gallons. The internal measurements the supplier gives, 18 × 44.4 × 10.2 inches, work out to roughly 35 gallons. One of those figures is wrong, and we cannot tell which. If capacity matters, plan around the measurements rather than the gallon number, and contact us if you need it checked.
The colour. It is listed as brown. In the supplier's photos the weave is a light, natural tan with a cream cushion, closer to honey than chocolate.
"Waterproof". The old title used the word. A woven bench with a hinged lid is not a sealed box. Rain can get through the weave and around the lid, so keep anything that must stay dry in a bag or plastic tub inside it, and bring the cushion in when it rains.
Weather resistance. The supplier says the PE rattan resists cracking and fading. That is typical of synthetic wicker, though strong sun will still dull any colour over the years.
Not stated: Overall external dimensions, seat height, bench weight and the size of the packed carton.

Why PE Rattan Works Outdoors

Traditional wicker is a weaving technique, not a material, and it was originally done with natural cane, willow or rattan. Those fibres look lovely but dry out, split and go mouldy when left outside. PE rattan is a polyethylene strip woven in the same way. It keeps the look but copes far better with rain and sun, which is why almost all outdoor wicker furniture now uses it. Wrapped around a steel frame, it gives a light bench that is still firm enough to sit on every day.

Stand it on a level surface so the lid closes square.
Let the gas struts do the work. Do not force the lid past its open position.
Keep within the stated 265 lb on the seat. It is a bench for two adults of average build, not for standing on.
Do not let children climb inside or play with the lid.

Brush loose dirt out of the weave and wipe it with mild soapy water.
Unzip and wash the cushion cover as needed, following the care label.
Store the cushion indoors in wet weather and over winter.

Measure the spot where the bench will stand and allow room in front of it for the lid to swing up and for you to lean in. The supplier does not give the outside size, only the storage space inside, so if the fit is tight, ask us first.
