Solar Security Camera – 3MP WiFi or 4G Outdoor Surveillance Camera
This solar security camera is a battery-powered outdoor camera with its own solar panel, finished in a grey bark-pattern camouflage. It records in 3MP, and the supplier offers it in two versions: one that connects over Wi-Fi and one that uses a 4G mobile network. The supplier's pictures show motion detection, infrared night vision and two-way audio. Easy Life Markets sells it as one set with the panel and fixings.
The appeal of this kind of camera is that it needs no wiring. A solar panel keeps the built-in battery topped up, so it can go on a gatepost, a barn, a tree at the end of a field or the wall of an outbuilding, well beyond the reach of a mains socket. The 4G version goes one step further and works where there is no Wi-Fi either.
What Is in the Box
The supplier's packing list says one set. Its contents picture shows:
- 1 × camera with two antennas and mounting bracket
- 1 × solar panel with lead
- 1 × power cable (USB)
- 1 × user manual
- 1 × tweezers
- Screws, wall plugs and a hex key
A memory card and a SIM card are not shown and are not included.
Wi-Fi or 4G: Which Version?
- Wi-Fi, 3MP. Connects to your own wireless network. The camera must be within range of the router or an access point. The supplier does not state the band. Outdoor cameras of this type normally use 2.4 GHz only.
- 4G European version, 3MP. Takes a SIM card and uses the mobile network, so it works where there is no Wi-Fi. You need a SIM with a data plan, which is not included, and mobile coverage at the spot where the camera will hang. Mobile networks use different frequency bands in different parts of the world, and this version is listed for European bands. Check with your network operator that it supports your network before you buy. Ask us if you want the band list from the supplier.

Points to Be Clear About
- Colour. The supplier's table says black. Every photo shows a grey bark-pattern finish with a black panel. Expect what the photos show.
- Weather rating. The supplier's pictures state IP66. That figure is not in the written specification and we have not seen a test report, so we pass it on as the supplier's claim.
- Battery capacity. Not stated. The pictures show a built-in battery pack without a figure.
- App. The pictures show a phone app with live view, playback and pan controls. The app is not named in the listing. The manual in the box will give it.
- Cloud storage. Shown as an option. Cloud plans on cameras like this are usually a paid subscription from the app provider, separate from anything we sell.
Why PIR Detection Matters on a Solar Camera
A camera that records all day would flatten its battery in hours. Low-power cameras like this one sleep, and wake when the PIR sensor detects the heat of a person or an animal moving across its view. That is what makes solar power workable, and it has two consequences. There is a short delay between the movement and the start of the recording, and the camera is not a substitute for continuous recording. Mount it so that people walk across the view and not straight towards it, because PIR sensors pick up sideways movement best.
Siting the Panel and the Camera
- Sun first. The panel needs several hours of direct sun a day. Face it towards the midday sun and tilt it. Shade from a branch for half the day can halve the charge.
- Signal second. Before drilling, stand at the spot with your phone and check the Wi-Fi strength, or the mobile signal for the 4G version.
- Height. Two and a half to three metres keeps the camera out of easy reach while still showing faces.
- Charge it fully with the USB cable before you mount it. A new battery that starts flat can take days to recover on solar alone.
- Clean the panel a few times a year. Dust and bird droppings cut the output.
In winter, with short days and low sun, expect the battery to need an occasional top-up from the USB cable.
Recording Responsibly
Point the camera at your own property. Rules on filming public paths, neighbours and employees vary from place to place, and two-way audio and sound recording are often covered by stricter rules than video. Check what applies where you live, and put up a notice if it is required.
Who It Suits
Owners of farms, smallholdings, yards, building sites, holiday homes and garages without mains power nearby, and anyone who wants a camera at a gate or driveway without running a cable.
